The Silent Film

After watching Battleship Potemkin, I am convinced that silent films are the most unique part of cinematic history. Silent films contain a certain essence and emotion that are not found in sound films. While watching Battleship Potemkin, the unique essence surrounding silent films was fully present. The imagery used in silent films seem to convey a higher level of emotion. Many aspects of the silent film create this, including the eerie black and white images and figures that are hardly seen in modern cinema. Silent films heavily rely on gesticulation to convey an emotion or idea. This unique nature of the silent film helps convey true emotion. As a modern viewer, I find all of these great qualities to be unique and exclusive to the silent film.
